Amanda has its points, it's very mature does tape balancing and so on, however 
at least up until before the last recent major update it had a bit of a blind 
spot about backing up more data than would fit on your media, the Windows 
cover was more than a little tenuous and it was quite firewall unfriendly.
I understand some of that may have been addresses recently though.

Bacula seems to be the one that's picking up from Amanda, does multiple media
(including backup to disk), does Windows, is halfway reasonable about 
firewalls. You do need to do some config work though.
