Hi Guys,

I was reading on another list about DSL router recommendations, and
there was a consensus that it was a good idea to use a DSL modem from
a supported OS platform, and what better platform for the job than
linux.

I was researching what linux supported DSL modems are available, and
conexant seems to be the popular choice. There is a binary driver for
2.4 and 2.6 kernels, but only for 32bit linux. The guide I'm using is
at:
http://patrick.spacesurfer.com/linux_conexant_pci_adsl.html

The guide seems to talk about requiring ATM support, and PPP over ATM.

Does anyone here know if this is applicable to the Irish/Eircom setup
of PPPoE? or is that a PPPoA specific requirement?

Does anyone else know of alternate chipset DSL modem cards that are
available in Ireland, I'd really like not to be a stuck in the mud and
run 32 bit linux on a 64 bit machine.

Tom.
