Wellps, it is simple actually: just install Debian unstable ;)

No kidding there actually, Debian folks have caught up quite well with
the integration work that Ubuntu has been doing by taking back the
patches and commiting them back in. There was thus a certain moment
where Ubuntu definitely was superior for Desktop-users, but as all/most
of these enhancements have found their way back into Debian there is no
advantage there anymore.

I thus have on my laptop a Ubuntu in a vmware. Thus the Gnome edition,
simply cause I like Gnome and I don't like KDE, it's the feel and what
one is used to, KDE is simply something I never really liked.
Windowmaker and the sort are neat, but a little bit too non-Windows like
and as my preferred GUI is Windows, I am used to that, and then the
Gnome theme makes it very easy to use both at the same time. But this
also depends completely on the way one uses a box, I tend to open up a
odd 20 of PuTTY's (check the about->license box ;) and SSH into various
boxes, as such if I would use Gnome/KDE as my primary desktop I would
have a couple of X-term's and that's it. Now I can still run all of my
other favorites (Visio especially comes to mind) and whatever not I need.

Now there is some food for a religious battle ;) As I mentioned it is
all about taste, people tend to like different things and more
importantly tend to do different things with different tools. Use the
best tool for the job, thus don't use a hammer to pick your nose ;)

Greets,
 Jeroen
