Just got my "La Fonera" AP today, will install it on my 10mbit cable connection tonight :) Will let you know how it handles.
Think I should hook it up with an ipcop box for security? :D

Thank and Kind Regards,

Below is a generous offer from Antoin O Lachtnain of Fon, who was one of the speakers at our recent AGM. Take him up on it people - spread the love :-)

If you would like a free Fonera, please follow the procedure Antoin outlines below, even if you have already been in touch with him since the AGM.

PRO ILUG

I was lucky enough to be able to speak to FON members at the ILUG AGM a few weeks ago. If you weren't there, let me give you a quick summary.

FON is the largest WiFi community in the world. Our members share their wireless Internet access at home and, in return, enjoy free WiFi wherever they find another Fonero's Access Point.

It all started as a simple idea. Why should you pay for Internet access on the go when you have already paid for it at home? Exactly, you shouldn't. So we decided to help create a community of people who get more out of their connection through sharing.

You can find out more at http://en.fon.com/info/whats_fon.php

OK, so what's the deal here? Well, normally, to become a fonero (member of FON community) you have to pay 29.95 plus postage for the Linux-based router. However, we are offering a special deal. You can get a Fonera router for free (including free postage).

So what's the catch? There has to be a catch, right?

Well, there is, a small one. You have to promise to make the 'Fonero Promise'. Specifically this means that you have to promise to keep the router plugged in to the Internet for at least one year. If you decide you don't want to continue for some reason, you must pass the router on to someone else who will keep it connected for one year.

So how to take advantage of this offer? Just send me an email at aol - @
- fon.com with the subject 'Free Fonera for ILUG members' and I will send you back a promotion code which you can use to make the Fonero Promise and get your free router from the FON Shop.

Offer is valid until December 14 2006.

PS: the free offer includes shipping. You don't have to pay anything.

FON is a company based in Spain and is bound by data protection laws similar to those in Ireland. FON will collect information about you during the ordering process, but will not pass any information to third parties.
