[ILUG] Internet timeout

Hi
I have a modem on FC5 to connect to the internet
but I want it to hangup after a period of not
been used. The standard setting for time out 
does not appear to work, as if 
there is still sum activity in the background.
So I was thinking of putting a 'at' command 
in the connect script but am not sure which one
it is. The commands ifup and ifdown seen to be 
used.
Any ideas welcome.
