[ILUG] Followup 1: Naive ADSL/WiFi questions (long (sorry!))?

 in this case, the ADSL modem is not mine, but part
 of the package, to be returned if/when I cancel.
 with that, plus the desire to test beforehand, plus
 throughput issues such as those you highlighted, and
 possibly other reasons including low cost (c.10€),
 it seemed sensible to just get a (5-port) 10/100
 switch and be done with it.

 ( as it so happens, I've since discovered the printer
  (my test peer) apparently detects the cable, so my
  original switch-less plan of using a straight cable
  probably would have worked (not verified). )
