[ILUG] Okay, I know I'm dim but......

Just managed to install ubuntu 6.1  on my AMD 2600+ with a Radeon 9600 
AGP graphics card. Problem is I can't get the installation to see the 
ATI and it insists on giving me a default 640x480 resolution which 
excludes most 'OK' buttons and the flashing of 60hz refresh is making me 
poor living room into a strobe centre. Can anyone tell me how to get 
this resolved so that my lovely Linux can make use of my equally lovely 
ATI card.
