Is it known whether the European sat cards commonly available in Ireland can
fully work with Linux? According to Komplett, these are:
AVerMedia A700 DVB-S Pro (PCI)
Hauppauge! WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 (PCI)
Hauppauge! WinTV-NOVA-S-USB2 (USB)
TerraTec Cinergy S DVB-S (USB)
TerraTec Cinergy S2 PCI HD, DVB-S/S2 (PCI)
Hauppauge! WinTV-HVR3000, Hybrid DVB- & DVB-S (PCI)
Dabs.ie adds the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR4000 which also has both DVB-S and DVB-T,
and the Pinnacle Systems PCTV Sat Pro USB. Perhaps there are others available
in other sources...
My preference would be either the Terratec, because it has a CI adapter and I
could eventually buy paid channels, or either of the Hauppage hybrids so I
could have both DVB-T for RTE and DVB-S for all other stuff. However I'd
really want to buy a card supported by Linux!

I would be most interested in seeing a neceaasry part of this project - the
hardware compatibility list :)

I'm moving to Galway which is why I'm setting up the sat anyway. I'd like to
meet the Galway LUG sometime!
