A friend of mine bought a 500GB drive form lidl and it died after a year. He
lost a ton of stuff.

I bough a Linksys NAS200 with two 500G drive off komplett for about €220.

I have them mirrored so if one dies I still have my data.

It depends on how important your data is.

Way i see it, the bigger your drive is the more data you can lose if it
craps out.

Even if you only use half the drive losing 250 GB of data is going to be
a pain.
