Its even worse than vista in some ways apparently. :-)

I got a new machine on Saturday, came with vista premium, and its  
pretty cool as a media center, but it is rubbish for absolutely  
everything else.
It only has 1GB RAM, and this is nowhere near enough to do anything  
productive, but that's fine as it is currently only being used as a  
media machine.

I tried booting 64bit linux (xubuntu), but it borked and had an OOM  
error. Annoyed I kept vista for a while. 32bit works fine though,  
although I am torrenting FC8 64-bit --Does no-one torrent distros? Its  
taking all week, and still only 25% complete!

This machine I'm writing on has leopard, and my old machine now runs  
RHEL5.1 desktop  (again).
I must say that in power management, linux is still behind OSX, but  
ahead of windows. Vista is better than XP for PM - but vista has PMS  
everywhere else, like VM utilisation, OMG, how memory hungry is this  
piece of crap?

I am playing with it, as I did buy it, but it is certainly not staying  
there for long...
Anyone recommend a good media app for linux? Ideally I would like to  
use the TV style remote as well, any chance of that working... am I  
dreaming?
