[ILUG] puzzle of the day: RHEL has files seemingly undoing edits

The thought occurs that this could be the low-level disk maintenance 
functionality, automatically remapping broken sectors with some of the 
space unannounced ones, and somehow getting an older copy?

This would tend to support the above... it's only happening on some 
physical bits of the disk.
