[ILUG] Debian Etch: Programs Launching on Login

I've been using Debian Etch on IBM ThinkPad T40 for 6 months now. One
day I was working with battery removed and power was switched off. Now
my problem is that all the applications that were running when the power
was switched off are being launched every time I login. I don't know how
to stop this! Any pointers to how I can stop them from being launched?
