• Search functions (contacts, expertise, documents, discussions,

Can search documents that are in the CMS, including the contents of pdf's
etc. Searching email's seems outside the scope of a CMS.
• Document management (incl. online document editing, bulk document upload)
Has access controls and versioned documents, and an api for bulk migration
of content
• Security management, Shared application editing, Integrated e-mail,
> Discussion groups, Contact books, Researcher profiles, Alerts, Calendar.
Doesn't really have any of this, although you can write modules for it.
Might be an idea to consider separate apps for forums, webmail and CMS
