[ILUG] adding users to groups

Hi Guys,

Want to automate account creatiion in scripts. I can create a user
account, its own group etc, no probs. But owing to required directory
privilages apache can't read the users html files until it is added to
the new users group.

I can hand edit /etc/group to add it... but I'd like to do it through
groupadd or useradd. From what I'm reading, useradd would change a
users settings, so I could change www-data's group to be the new
group, but I don't want to do that, I want to leave www-data in its
own group, but also add it to the new users group.... any ideas?
