Yes and no. Yes there is no way to reliably detect what order the USB
storage devices get detected in. However, no there are in fact ways
around this. Namely, one can use udev to create custom /dev/whatever
files specific to model/serial numbers of each device. This way the
order does not matter as you use the device specific /dev/ files and
not sdXX for mounting.
