[ILUG] Ubuntu update strategy for kernel

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the information. The problenm with the sound
is being tracked i just have all the information collcted on the
laptop at home so i dont currently have the info.
There are at least five different solutions all of which work for
different models.
I have exhaused all options except for for the kernel.
I installed the kernel package for the upcomming release
which is 2.6.24 - that fixed the sound but obviously broke everything
else :)
Theres a post on the ubuntu forums that walks you through rolling your
own 2.6.23 vanilla kernel so hopefull i can do that without breaking
everything!
Again the link for that is at home.
Has anyone rolled their own kernel for Ubuntu? I know for example that
this breaks the Nvidia drivers.
