Hi Frank,

That might work but it might be better to use Thunderbirds to configure
a new 'movemail' account. It's a not very well publicised feature. (I
just remember seeing the option there when setting up a new email
account in previous versions of Thunderbird). Since I've never tried
this, I've no idea how well it will work. It may not be such a good idea
as there are a few gotchas with file locking permissions.

An web search for "thunderbird movemail" should help. Here are a few
links to start you off:
http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/movemail/
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=5239
https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunderbird/+bug/96566

YMMV, etc.

If this approach proves to be overly problematic, I'd suggest installing
dovecot and accessing your email via IMAP. Dovecot is very flexible and
quite easy* to install and configure.

Best wishes and happy new year,
Anthony

existing mail spool that stored my mail messages in mbox format
