I would recommend you to take the drives and test them in a PC.

If the drives are working well I would attach other drives to the NAS
and run the tests again.

The slowness could be caused by some faulty part in the NAS.

Personally, if the separated drives are fast I would put the drives
back in the device and return it to the maker as faulty (if the
warranty is still valid, of course...).
