It looked they're missing kerberos libraries. Even if they're not
using kerberos, their telnet binary expects to be linked with an
object file providing such.
They need to either install the requisite kerberos libs, or write a
stub library providing at least the required symbols.

I'm not sure I said it was my access protocol of choice. :)
I may have disputed that it was utterly insecure before though. It's
not terrifically secure, as it's restricted (IMU) to the older,
weaker, near-legacy algorithms provided by Kerberos (i.e. DES), and
you obviously do have to remember to not type in any passwords while
using the telnet session though. However, the authentication is
secure enough to keep out casual attackers.
FWIW, I'd use ssh over telnet.
