Sorry, this is off topic, but there are a few yanks here and many of
us work with yanks. Please pass it on.
If you're an American living overseas (or if you know one) you should
know that the Irish Democrats Abroad primary is from the 5th to the
12th of February, 2008. You have the choice of voting in your own
state primary (if your state allows overseas votes in the primary) or
in the Democrats Abroad one (not both however). You will need to
join Democrats Abroad (http://www.democratsabroad.org/) by the
the 31st of January, 2008 in order to vote in the Democrats Abroad
primary. To vote:
Our primary will be held from the 5th to
the 12th of February. The polling station
will be set up at O'Neill's Pub on Suffolk
Street from about 10am until late. Other
than that though if people cannot make it
in person, internet and fax voting will be
available. Anybody who votes will have to
be a member of Democrats Abroad Ireland by
January 31st just so we can verify them."
Essentially Democrats Abroad counts as a "state" during the
presidential nominating process and sends delegates to vote for who
the Democrats will choose to run for President. For more info on
eligibility and how the process works, see here:
http://www.democratsabroad.org/hot-topics/2007/12/005033.php
Based on the results of Iowa and New Hampshire, the nomination will
*not* be decided by the time those of us overseas vote. If you feel
strongly about who you want to see running, you should take this
chance to state your preference. Unlike Americans in America you have
7 days to vote - and your polling booth sells pints.
BTW if you want to participate in the Republican primary, your only
choice is to vote in your state primary. Republicans Abroad does not
have standing in the Republican party.
