  | Can anyone recommend a simple application (Linux or Windows)
  | which a nerdish child could use for creating material for a
  | web-site? (I think the plan is to put a newsletter of some
  | kind on the web.)

I like WML (Website Meta Language), http://thewml.org/
albeit it's not at all simple. the designers themselves
say “While not trivial and idiot proof WML provides most
of the core features real hackers always wanted for HTML
generation.” (the doc's in somewhat broken English, but
 is usually fairly clear.)

people who aren't comfortable with abstraction, modularity,
command-lines, and script-ish programming will (probably)
be seriously lost. I've no idea if that fits with “nerdish”
 or not .... ?

OTOH, “newsletter” might be best translated into “blog”,
in which case I there are (probably) far better tools?

cheers!
