Are you using KDE or Gnome?
Which kernel?
(Mine is 2.6.27.5-94.fc10.i686 .)
Does /etc/fedora-release read "Fedora release 10 (Cambridge)"?

What happens if you run "kmix" (on the command line)?
In my case, the icon bounces up and down for a few seconds,
and then stops.
No mixer window comes up.
