Not an answer to your question,
but I bought an EeePC-1000 (from Elara)
but it was stolen 2 days after I got it.

Then I bought an EeePC 4G for half the price (230 euro at PC World)
for my grand-daughter.
As its name implies this only has a 4GB SSD.
But for my purposes this is probably quite adequate,
as I only use my laptop for communicating with my desktop/server.

Maybe that is the case quite widely -
all that is necessary is the ability to access the internet.
