*Practical Software Virtualization: Hands-On Approach*
*Thursday, 9th of October, 5pm*
*UCD Computer Science Lecture Theatre (B0.04)*
The talk will start with a short historical overview of virtualization
and isolation while describing the different virtualization and
isolation techniques. It will then focus on lightweight isolation and
the methods used in Linux-VServer comparing them to 'heavier'
virtualization solutions followed by live demonstration. Practical
aspects of running virtualization solutions will also be discussed.
Intended Audience: IT professionals, OSS enthusiasts, undergraduate
students, academic and postdoctoral staff, postgraduate students
Herbert Poetzl has been a leader of Linux-VServer
(http://linux-vserver.org/) virtualization project since November 2003.
He also developed and taught an Object-Oriented Software Engineering
course at the Technical University of Vienna for a number of years.
Herbert got his first contact with Linux at university and later slowly
moved to the world of free software. While working for several small and
some large companies in Austria, he studied the Unix working
environment, kernel concepts and internals.
