[ILUG] Losing keyboard focus after an hour!

I'm running Ubuntu HH fully updated at work and at home.

On a lightly loaded machine at home recently (XEmacs, Firefox, xpdf & a 
few Gnome terminals) after about an hour of typing & LaTeX-ing I lose 
keyboard focus (not sure if this is right term?). No keyboard input 
possible though mouse still works.

I turned off screensaver in case that was problem.

The problem recurs about once an hour (but not exactly).

Only other thing I can think of is the Update Notifier.

I've googled without success.

Any suggestions?
