Well I assume they have some wear leveling stuff built in, after all
they can run XP on an eeepc without trashing the on-board SSD in 45
minutes ;-)
with mine I kept the Journalling on but mounted everything noatime, if
you have more ram than stock you might also wish to make the /tmp
filesystem in ram. my line looks like this in fstab
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
syslog is too handy to get rid of but it does make sense in terms of
battery life etc to disable services that are not needed. A bit of
playing around with bootlog may help here as well as narrowing down the
bottle-necks at startup
