Ran knoppix 3.4, and its Xfree logfile gave me everything I needed to
know, so I went back to my deb setup and tried to recreate.
Not 100% sure that I followed the same procedure as before, BUT, after
installing xfonts-base package, I could get the same level of detail
into the xorg.log file as I was getting from Xfree86 log file under
knoppix.
