[ILUG] How do I start X/KDE straight after boot?

check /etc/innittab - is the boot level set to 3? if so, change it to 5 - that should boot into some *DM (xdm, gdm, kdm).
if it's already set to 5 but not booting, a quick hack would be to tell the system to run kdm after the system boots -
add "kdm &" to the end of /etc/rc.local
I'm sure there are correct ways to do it, but those two spring to mind from the available info.
