I have just tried this on a clean slate centos 5.2 install and I am not
seeing any issue whatsoever with Cut and paste not working as it should 
I am also a fedora user and have never seen this or any other weirdness
around cut and paste 

would there be any issues around the character set or code pages in
use ?
