I'm sure someone in O2's corporate data group told us about 
the two APNs.  IIRC, the way they put it was "open.internet is 
for when you need to connect to your mobile device" or something
to that effect.

Going from that statement to my above conclusions was the
result of experiment, since trying to find the right person
in O2 to talk about this was practically impossible.
