[ILUG] E-Book Reader BeBook?

I'm resurrecting an old thread here but I've been thinking of buying
an ebook reader for a while. My use for one would be to read research
papers (mathematics) in pdf format.
Have any of you who own one of these things used them for something
like this? The BeBook looks as if it might do the trick. I would be
dealing primarily with one of:
1) pdf files generated by latex;
2) pdf files converted from postscript files that were probably
generated by latex; and
3) big unwieldy pdf files that are just scans of old papers.
So, does anybody know if either
a) any of the available readers will just read the above comfortably; or
b) I can easily convert the above to a better format (on a Linux box,
obviously).
It would be unfortunate to buy one of these things and find out that
it is no good at displaying mathematical notation or such notation is
lost when the files are converted into e-reader friendly formats.
Similarly, enough of the pdfs that I have are of the scanned-image
variety that dealing well with these would be important.
Thanks,
Bob
