[ILUG] Java on Linux

Hi Conor,
I did a CS degree in Limerick a couple of moons ago - linux was in use
somewhat, but 90% of the machines were MS installs, with the other 10% dual
booted. I think you'll find that tech support should be eager to assist you
and as the others have pointed out - Java (virtual machine based languages)
is designed so that it abstracts away all the nasty cross platform worries
that other languages have - most lecturers won't even be able to tell what
platform you developed your code on.
I've taught Java before and I always start by showing people how it works on
the command line and then show them the point and click interface that
Eclipse provides. Developing for Java on linux will be no problem - I'd
imagine 95% of your lecture notes will be applicable (5% of windows
commands/screenshots will surely appear) -
I wouldn't give it a second thought, go educate those MS users in UCD ;-)
