and while Mutt correctly shows me that as one message, kMail interprets it
as two messages. Whilst typing this I had a little inspiration and I edited
a copy of the mail file and removed the blank line after the --- wondering
would that help. Well, it did, for some value of help. Now both Mutt AND
kmail interpret it as two messages - at least I've got consistent behaviour :-)
Now as it happens I don't in any way need the message in this folder, and
I've no problem simply deleting it, but I've just been curious about why it
happens. Obviously it's because kmail interprets the line beginning with
From as the start of a mail (I think somebody mentioned that the code uses a
heuristic like "If it begins with From, and ends with what looks like a
date, it's the start of a mail") but why does Mutt not do the same when
there's a preceding line of --- followed by a blank. Is the format of such
mail files documented anywhere ? Why doesn't kmail just support maildir and
have done with it ?

Niall
