no guru here: like you I have an old wire only aDSL supplied by IOL way 
back when, which i kicked into bridge mode (seemed like a good idea at 
the time...) which then runs to an old toshiba brick running ipcop 
supplying firewall to the green zone and until recently port forwarding 
to a DMZ.
the WiFi (linksys access point) sits on the green zone protected by WPA-PSK
the lynksys runs in transparent mode, forwarding DHCP requests to the 
icop, which then shows up in the logs which i read occasionally.
