Thanks for the suggestion.
I've installed the clamav and amavisd-new packages
on my CentOS-5.4 mail-server,
and I will see if I can work out how to use them.

Actually, there is a temporary problem with Perl
after upgrading a couple of days ago to CentOS-5.4,
but I'm sure this will be ironed out shortly.
