[ILUG] server doesn't have the decency to crash ...

 Could you run a Xen like system in a ram disk (or on flash) ? I suppose,
what do you do when the RAM or Flash fails.

 There is also a sysrq /proc file you can write into. About 99.9% of the
time you can write something into it to make the system reboot. So, a small
C program that is left running

 I assume you don't have swap enabled on a server. That would
cause...interesting things to happen if a disk died.
