Exactly - the softphones can make calls through the trunk, so the Asterisk <-> Blueface connection is fine.

No, you haven't misread it. Calls to/from extensions on the ATA hardware get no voice, be they local or external. Calls to/from extensions on the softphones work as desired, local or external.

My setup is like this:
Asterisk --- UA (ATA and softphones)
I do also run a firewall (shorewall) on the box which hosts Asterisk, but it is configured to allow all traffic from LAN to firewall and as noted, the softphones work fine, so there shouldn't be a networking issue.
