Given the current weather and some discussion with various datacentres
around Dublin using free to air cooling techniques (with a number of
different names) I'm now kind of regretting that I didn't get an air
vent joining my conservatory with my under-stairs comms cabinet. The
ability to suck air in from the conservatory would mean I could run many
services safely under the stairs, with the exhaust heating the
conservatory (which is a little chilly for comfort in this weather.)
Of course, I would need a different venting system for the summer
months when the conservatory is a heat trap. And the whole thing would
have required ripping up bits of floor and wall that I wasn't willing to
see done with the house (yet!) ;-)
Still, perhaps as home heating systems get better people might consider
engineering in the ability to transfer heat (or cold) from one room to
another instead of having to pay for both heating and cooling to achieve
the same effect.
Erm... the eeePC which runs under the stairs providing basic services
runs Linux, so I claim relevancy! ;-)
Best regards,
