although *not* what you asked, directly, i'd consider migrating *all*
the documents from Works to ODF, use Open Office or similar and ditch
the whole microsoft load.

spend some time getting used to OO and never look back.

two caveats:
its a while since i uses Works, i do recall it was akward to convert
from - don't know if tools are better now.
you know your dad best: my octogenerian dad would make that jump only
the mother is locked into her MS Games...
