I would suggest that your problem may be due to the versions you are using. The Linux desktops you mentioned are all at least 18 months old, and if you're using the versions of Open Office supplied with them, they're likely to be fairly old. You say that you have no problems using Open Office on Windows. Check the version of Open Office you're using on Windows and compare that with the version you're using on the various Linux desktops.
