Hi Guys,
Yeah, it is very different okay. Commitment Accounting is common with
governmental type organisations and as I mentioned on the South American
continent in general.
But Cash or Accrual is the choice confused with and again Adempiere does
support this choice.
I've never worked on any project that was anything other than accrual so
have no first hand experience of either.
In Adempiere, the choice of Accrual or Cash (and or Commitment) is made
of the Accounting Schema and you can define multiple Accounting Schema
that operate in parallel so, in theory, you could use both in Adempiere :)
Of course this is not the intention of having multiple accounting
schemas. The purpose of this functionality is to allow for the scenario
were a subsidiary might wish to report in a schema with rules for their
own jurisdiction but also in that of the corporate HQ.
Though I stick by my recommendation that because configuring Adempiere
can be such a big task I would not suggest it for small business -
unless that is the small company understands all these options!
There are those in the Adempiere community however who believe that
Adempiere is ideally suited to small businesses as its immense
flexibility (as we see from this one question) means it can grow with
the company so they'll never need to upgrade through different classes
of the product (as many proprietary solutions require)... but rather
just start using more and more of Adempiere!
I'm starting to sound like a salesman here, so let me point out one
other difference between Adempiere and many other FOSS ERPs you see. It
is controlled by a foundation type organisation not a company. If the
foundation were to fold the ownership must pass to another similar type
open foundation. So its openness is ensured, unlike many other open ERP
projects sadly, and it really belongs to the Adempiere community of
companies & individuals (though only individuals can be members of the
foundation). My point is, I am not selling anything I have nothing to
gain, I just think it's a great project & tool.
Sorry Gerard for hijacking your thread some what.
I still think for small business - let your accountant handle the end of
year accounting side but to create orders & invoices and generally
manage your customers, vTigerCRM is very straight forward and easy to
set-up - and if it doesn't do something just work around it! If you
can't the code is there and there are lots of PHP & MySQL developers
around who could make it do whatever you did need.
