Can't open docs from the share without copying them to the local machine first.

Yes, from what I've read it is specific to certain apps. There are
workarounds to browse to hidden folders and access files through
those, which it not for my audience.

You know... this might just be the way to go. Currently they use
generic login accounts, could be time to change that.
