[ILUG-Social] Quake2

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a rant.
I've spent, oh, several months now quietly fragging alien bastards in
quake 2 for linux, and much fun was had. Hundreds of nasties died, and I
didn't think it too many. Tonight, my months of toil culminated in the
destruction of the big gun. An air strike was called in, I rushed for
the excape pod, and...
segfault in svgalib. Signal 11 if you're interested.
Three fucking months. I've updated svgalib. I've run the program as
root. I've run it as a normal user[1]. I've started the level again. No
matter what happens, whether I win or die, the level ends in a segfault.
This is not a plea for assistance, but if anyone *does* know what the
problem is, I probably won't get around to putting my foot through the
monitor tonight. Tomorrow, though, may be too late.
This, instead, is a rant. I've finished with my lovely quake 2 cd, and
the two mission packs are awaiting installation. I'm probably not going
to bother. I'll probably just microwave them.

Maybe it's just me and games. A similar thing happened right at the end
of Diablo for windows. I think I'll just go back to dos 3.3 (or possibly
cp/m); I've never had a problem with graphics under either os.

Anyway, thank you for listening (metaphorically speaking).
