You don't need a tri-band one per se - all you need is one which can
do GSM1900, which is the US GSM standard. Simplest thing would be to
get one over there (any one; most European GSM900/GSM1800 phones have
a GSM1900 equivalent), put your Irish SIM in it, and use it while
you're there, switching back to the GSM900 phone when you come back
over here.
