The IBM 75GXP range of UDMA100 disks are nice, fast, quiet
and really good value for the 45GB model right now.
hdparm -t got approx 32MB/s on my A7V (not A7V-133, mind you...)
with the regular Linux UDMA stuff (i.e. disk hanging off the
regular IDE connector (VIA controller), with UDMA 80-way cable).
I'd be interested to know what I'd get from the A7V's Promise
UDMA-100 controller, but I haven't got around to patching my
kernel with the Promise drivers. (Not really that bothered
either, since kernel compiles tend to do more seeking than big
transfers...)

Later,
Kenn
