NTL scraps phone, TV and online plan

NTL, the telecommunications giant which owns Cablelink, has abandoned 
plans to offer digital TV, internet and telephone services to almost 
400,000 customers in the Dublin area.
It has taken the decision because it underestimated the cost of 
introducing the new services, the Irish Independent has learned.
The move comes after huge expenditure from the company on the services 
it was proposing to introduce this year.
NTL has already spent an estimated £80m in the initial introduction of 
services including a £6m advertising splurge on TV, radio and national 
newspapers. Some Dublin customers have already had their homes adapted 
for the services.
