 Check out;
    /usr/share/dict/words

 on most linux installations.

 www.dict.org has a downloadable free dictionary & search thingy too. I
use "gdict", a gnome applet that I can bang words into, and it goes off to
dict.org, does a search, and then brings up the definitions required in a
window on the desktop. Kick ass.
