But Christians aren't Catholics! And simply because there are
christian groups
with even more "extreme" viewpoints does not make Catholics great.
Anyway what I was really getting at was that I don't believe for a moment
that this is a political issue, it is a religious one AND that it is
under fear
of the Catholic Church and not the combined forces of all Christian Groups
in Ireland.
Could we challenge (ok forget about money) the closure of drinking
establishments in the Supreme Court as unconstitutional as it shows a clear
lack of seperation between church and state?
Looking at (which uses PHP, nice after being accosted by ASP cookies at
www.irlgov.ie):
http://www.oasis.gov.ie/government_in_ireland/the_constitution/religious_liberty.html
we read that:
"The state guarantees not to endow or favour any religion and
not to discriminate on the grounds of religion. "
And is not the law to close drinking establishments on Good Friday a
violation of this
by favouring Christians!
Now just to continue that slightly tangentially, anyone know a good
lawyer willing to do
some legal work for free for the ilug? I was wondering about the
constitutional protections
we may have as Irish citizens from the DMCA and similar laws. Are we
constitutionally
protected by Freedom of Expression? I certainly don't think DeCSS
would undermine
public order, morality or the authority of the state so .....
Basically if we can should ilug
not host mirrors of each and every piece of public domain/gpl/bsd/Free
software source code
out there (or at least all the ones with legal questions (potentially)
hanging over them
elsewhere)? Obviously if we can't get some legal advice we would be
mad to try this (and
also if our hosting suppliers are unwilling to stand by this). Could
we be done for hosting
a linux dvd player or an ac3 encoder or any other piece of software
which is held
ONLY in source form?
