Thanks for all the replies guys. Turns out the problem was I was trying
to link a 3.x GNU libstdc++ with a program compiled with 2.95
In my defence this had occurred to me and I'd checked that the box only
had a gnu 2.95 compiler. However that doesn't mean it doesn't have non
2.95 libraries as system default. Some one installed a newer version of
the GNU libraries over-writing the system wide library sym-links but not
updating the system compiler (or replacing the old symlinks).
As they cunningly did this as root tracking them down and administering
a thorough kicking may be difficult. I have a feeling it might have been
one of the engineering support, so kicking them would just get me more
compiler problems anyway :(
Still problem solved. Thanks again :)
Greg
