[Webdev] Syncronising distributed dbs

Before I start reinventing wheels maybe someone can tell me how 
much of this particular wheel already exists.

I want to set up a server of some kind (on Linux) so that individuals 
running MS Access at home can syncronise their copy of a simple 
database with a copy held on the server.  The users have dial-up 
access and can sometimes use the database application for a few 
hours at a time, so a client-server configuration is not practical.

Syncronising will obviously not be a simple copy, as two users 
may have made separate changes to the database during the 
same period.

Does anyone know of any packages that might do this or might 
help me to do it?
